Houston-Galveston Area Council, in partnership with the City of Friendswood is developing the Friendswood Active Transportation Plan to help shape the future of the active transportation network in the community. The Plan is all about making it easier, safer, and more fun to walk, bike, and explore your community. The Plan also will serve as a roadmap to guide short-term and long-term priorities for active transportation in Friendswood. We’re taking a close look at current conditions, listening to locals, and mapping out real steps to improve active transportation so everyone can get around with ease—whether you’re out for a stroll, a ride, or just enjoying your neighborhood.
Study Area
The City of Friendswood is located approximately 20 miles southeast of Downtown Houston and is situated between both Harris and Galveston Counties. Friendswood is a suburban community known for its quiet, family-friendly lifestyle, outdoor amenities, and a strong sense of civic pride. Over the past decade, the City of Friendswood has experienced steady growth and has an estimated population of 40,826 in 2023.
Study Objective
The Friendswood Active Transportation Plan will identify opportunities for safe, multimodal connections within the community for residents to enjoy walking, biking, or rolling across Friendswood. This planning effort will establish a phased implementation strategy that will connect residents of Friendswood to their schools, parks, religious and civic institutions, and other local destinations via an active transportation network.
