Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC), in partnership with Montgomery County is developing a county-wide transportation plan for Montgomery County. This includes an 18 - month study and public engagement process that will connect across the four Montgomery County Precincts, taking into account the unique character and needs of each. The goal of this study is to examine the County’s transportation network holistically rather than by individual segments or modes to maximize the network efficiency. Montgomery County is growing rapidly with both new residents and new visitors each year. This plan will be both data- and community-driven, focusing on the following objectives.



Study Area

Montgomery County is one of Texas’ fastest-growing counties, with over 700,000 residents. Covering 1,047 square miles, the county has seen rapid growth fueled by strong schools, job access, and a mix of suburban and rural communities.


Project Objectives

  • Improve safety & traffic flow

  • Increase north/south and east/west connectivity

  • Identify the impacts of toll roads

  • Evaluate transit and active transportation needs

  • Plan for future growth

The final county-wide plan will include a unique Workbook for each of the four Precincts, including recommendations and funding insights. Precincts 1, 3, & 4 will receive very detailed Workbooks, while the Workbook for Precinct 2 will focus on a high-level review for success of the 2022 Montgomery County Precinct 2 Mobility Study.

Your Input Matters

Montgomery County is projected to exceed 1.2 million residents by 2045. Without proactive planning, this growth will lead to congested roadways and reduce quality of life. With a clear plan and unified goals, we can prepare for the future and keep Montgomery County vibrant and safe.

Community involvement is a cornerstone to a successful plan. Throughout this 18-month planning process, you will have many opportunities to get involved. This webpage will have new questionaries and interactive maps to play with at each stage of the project. We will host open houses and pop-up events with fun activities and many opportunities for you to shape the future of Montgomery County! Just for fun, we will be tracking which Precinct is the most involved at each stage. Let’s see what your Precinct can do!
